This has been a good year. Maria Kourkouta looked way back, way beyond the “Crisis Porn” of recent years and reminded us of a time when we were poets and composers and writers and had something of our own to say. Return to Aeolus Street will be treated as a feature film by this section, screened solo with the director present. The prolific poet, novelist, artist, musician and radical filmmaker Aryan Kaganof will be present too with a selection of short films, hopefully a mere introduction to one of the most exciting free thinkers operating in cinema today. Dominic Gagnon, another prolific creator of work that spans many disciplines – but includes a filmography of over 30 titles – will be represented by his last installment of a trilogy that archives media generated angst. Finally, The Absent Stone by Sandra Rozental and Jesse Lerner deals with the – oh so familiar to us Greeks – subject of stolen monuments. It reminds us that, when you are poor, it is very easy to lose everything, including your culture.
